Digitisation is expected to play a major role in the economic recovery after the COVID-19 crisis. Thus, at the request of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, the Policy Department for Economic, Scientific, and Quality of Life Policies of the European Parliament has elaborated a study on the Development of New Digital Services concerning short-(2021), medium-(2025) and long-term (2030) perspectives and the implications for the Digital Services Act. The study lays out predictions for digital services in the next one to ten years and provides recommendations for actions for the European Parliament in preparation for the Digital Services Act. The main aim of the report is to inspire and help Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to reach thoughtful, ground-breaking, and sophisticated decisions in the legislative process for the Digital Services Act.
