LITHUANIA: Clusters as vehicles for SME's post COVID-19 recovery

Submitted by Tedora Aibu on 22 May 2020

According to KlasterLT, the creation of a cluster-friendly environment is a high priority in Lithuania. Many efforts are made to develop international relations and join international clusters in order to have innovative high-level local clusters. Innovation networks for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) create an environment favorable to innovate and develop relations with large enterprises and international partners. Thus, the aim of KlasterLT is to raise awareness of Lithuanian clusters, to publish news related to clusters and their activities, and to present subjects topical to the current and future members of the cluster community.

The most recent publication shows how Lithuanian clusters have managed to turn a rough state-of-being into a source of innovation and new opportunities. As a result of the quarantine imposed by the outbreak of CVOID-19 pandemic, business restrictions, changing consumer habits, and market demand, various industries have begun to adapt their production processes. Clusters participating in the InoLink project were among the most daring to turn the challenges that came along with lockdown-imposed restrictions into new opportunities. Those who dared to transform gained valuable experience, and new competencies. Moreover, for some members the risks not only paid off, they managed to survive and took advantage of new opportunities in both local and foreign markets.
