ROMANIA: Clusters support local communities during COVID-19 crisis

Submitted by Tedora Aibu on 11 May 2020

Asociatia SMURD Galați is the management entity of the Innovative Health Cluster called Dunărea de Jos from the city of Galați in Romania. Asociatia SMURD Galati aims to develop the cluster and promote information and technology transfer to increase the performance of Smal and Medium Enterprises by collaborating with Research, Development, and Innovation entities (RDI). Asociatia supports the local community and joins those who fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through direct and active involvement, making the first purchases of consumables and medical equipment with donations.

In the face of the current COVID-19 crisis, the Association managed to purchase and donate a fully equipped islet to the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations called General Eremia Grigorescu in Galati. The stretcher is a very useful mobile device for transporting people suspected of dangerous infections or burned patients, from a contaminated place to a specialised institution for specialised treatment. A disinfection tunnel, disinfectants, and protective equipment arrived at the end of April in the Emergency Clinical Hospital St. Apostle Andrei of Galați.
