Cluster Strategy
Mission/Objectives:

The foundation of Biotechnology Innovation Base Cluster located in Southern Transdanubia was based on the co-operation of five small enterprises in the 1990's. The cluster co-operation agreement was signed by the 10 founding members on the 10 December 2005, and in 2008, already with 16 members, the organization was awarded the Accredited Innovation Cluster status, which it has constantly renewed also in 2011, in 2014 and in 2017. The accredited status must be renew every two years, when the new accredited tender will be announced, until the appearance of the announcement the status automaticly will be extended. Our first accreditation was valid from 10th September 2008 to 10th September 2010, our second accreditation was valid from 13th December 2011 to 13th December 2013, our third accreditation was valid from 21st February 2014 to 21st February 2016 and our forth is valid from 2nd Juny 2017 until now, because of the extending until the appearance of the new accredited announcement.    Today with 42 members it is among the first fourthly accredited cluster in the country. At the beginning the membership mostly worked on the field of biotechnology, but to serve emerging needs, for today it was complemented with small and medium-sized enterprises from the field of bioinformatics, engineering and food industry. The expanding of the cluster members is continously as you can see on the connection time of each member in the member list.    The cluster focuses on the healthcare industry and medical biotechnology, including the development, manufacture and distribution of in vitro diagnostics (IVD) devices.    Throughout their activities, Cluster-members strive to utilise products families being as complete as possible. The high level of synergy among invididual products is ensured by cluster-level co-operation. Within the framework of the industry-level network, the long-term goal is to develop so-called "orphan" products for preventing, diagnosing and treating rare diseases. The product development activity is expressly SME-oriented, which is in perfect harmony with the composition of the members of the BIB Cluster.    The high quality of the Cluster's operation is confirmed by the successes achieved by its individual cluster members with outstanding economic performance. The development of a number of new products and product families has been successfully completed, and these items are among highly sought-after products both in the domestic and in the foreign markets.    Product-plans for product-development:    1. IVD immunohistochemistry product family

2. IVD flow cytometry reagents    3. IVD immune-serology reagents and kits    4. IVD laboratory instruments and accessories    5. High performance combined laboratory service group    6. Alternative animal and in vitro experiment models    7. Implantable tissue reinforcement net for abdomen operations    8. IVD tools to monitor tissue integration of implantable devices    9. Supplementary diet product development

DDOP-1.1.3-11-2011-0009 Realization of joint investments, increase competitiveness of the Biotechnology Innovation Base Cluster

GINOP-1.3.2-15-2018-00036 "New Generation" - Strengthening the Biotechnology Innovation Base cluster, renewing its international market opportunities

The cluster management organization continously applies for european tenders to win major possibilities and some more money to finance bigger cluster activities and the promoting of the cluster in hungarian and in international stands.        One of our finished tender was the DDOP-1.1.3-11-2011-0009 tender of PEIK Zrt. The Pécsi Egészségipari Innovációs Központ Zrt. - as coordinator of the program of the same name - was established by the government, the University and enterprises within the framework of Pécs the Pole of Life Quality. The industrial base of the competitiveness development is the Biotechnology Innovation Base accredited innovation cluster (BIB Custer), with the management organization PEIK Zrt. Current project ensures the faster, more competitive utilization of the finished, ongoing and planned developments. The essential condition of it is the establishing of the technological platform, the cell- and tissue culture laboratory, which allows the further R+D+I activities and small production capacity, which supports the market enforcement of the most important product category, the in vitro medical technology devices.        Our actual tender now is the GINOP-1.3.2-15-2018-00036 tender, which project ends predictably in the first quarter of the year 2021. The present tender of PEIK Zrt. has been developed in accordance with the needs of the member companies of the cluster, taking into account the tender conditions of GINOP-1.3.2-2015. Our main goal is to create international visibility and ensure a stronger market presence for our member companies. A key aspect was to increase the efficiency of the IVD procducing laboratory created during the previous tender, international promotion of the products produced on the platform, increase their marketability. Increasing the research utilization of the laboratory making benefit for the cluster members. The methodology for compiling the tender was based on a needs assessment and it was also determined by the experience of the management organization. The needs assessment took place in personal meetings, discussions, staying on the ground of realities. When designing the tender we took into account the cost-effective use of the opportunities. An important aspect was to intensify the activities of the cluster, to create opportunities for joint activities, collaborations. The need of the cluster management, to try to involve companies that appear as tenants in the innovation center we operate and utilize our incubation experience is also reflected in the application. A cluster initiative dealing with electricity is increasingly being developed at the Innovation Center of Pécs, their work can make the work of our cluster more visible and even more economical.    In the framework of the tender we started an educational serie in connection with cluster development for our cluster members. The first training was organized on 29th November 2019. The second followed it on 7th February 2020. There will be a third one in connection the mentioned tender and after that reflecting on the needs of the members there will be further occasions.    We are able to organise more international conference in Hungary.    There will be more opportunities to go to different international exhibitions and fairs to promote the cluster and win relationships according to the export of the member companies and/or to form further foreign cooperations.    We are on the work to update our homepage also in the upper mentioned tender complete it with promotional materials.    The cluster is able to renew its ESCA bronze label certificate which it has owned once from 22nd November 2012 to 22nd November 2014.
