Mission/Objectives: 

Habitech – the Energy and Environment District promoted by the Autonomous Province of Trento and recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, is the leading national center for green building, renewable energy and innovation: since 2006 Habitech operates in these areas and strives for a market transformation towards sustainable solutions.

Habitech is a non-for profit organization and a network of more 120 members which represents both private and public sectors: it is not only the point of reference for all of its members when it comes to R&D, innovation and sustainable practices, but it has also become a beacon for many other industries in Italy and abroad.

Habitech’s mission is to change the way to consider sustainability towards a strategic tool for business innovation and development, and to drive public and private clients in providing consultancy for high standard performances.

Habitech promotes and coordinates integrated and innovative processes to improve buildings and real estate assets through specialized activities: energy audits, sustainability assessment, retro-commissioning and dynamic modeling; it works together with the construction and manufacturing industries in order to insert sustainability in an effective and profitable way over the entire design, construction and operation processes.

Services: Habitech is the leading company in Italy for consulting in the sustainable building sector and has more than 70 certified projects between LEED and BREEAM certification schemes, and dozens of collaborations in the Real Estate world. Habitech offers services to the market and to the consortium members to improve their positioning and performance on the markets, also pursuing the objective of encouraging entrepreneurial development through support for market-driven research in the areas of environmental sustainability. Innovation and funded projects: innovation is one the main investment for Habitech, the common thread that matches activities, services, spaces for dialogue and work. Habitech, as a non-profit company, reinvests the profits generated and pours this value into innovative projects, capable of guiding the market and having a significant and tangible impact on the territory. The mission of Habitech is the transformation of the construction market: this is why Habitech invests in this sector, benefiting from the local territory as a prototype land for the development of widespread projects: in these years Habitech has developed and disseminated embryonic and ambitious initiatives which has given birth to national relevance initiatives. Timber buildings: Habitech’s specific expertise on the issue of timber buildings is linked to the study and dissemination of certifying the designed wooden buildings paying attention to safety features and integrity. In this case ARCA (Architecture, Comfort, Environment) is the first example in Italy of a certification system specifically designed for timber buildings and for the wood supply chain: ARCA was devised in order to promote quality timber construction, to provide reliable and transparent guarantees of the performance of wooden buildings and to assure people’s living and working comfort. It has been developed in order to advance a new philosophy that recognizes wooden building attributes such as the best possible load-bearing capacity, thermal, acoustic and moisture insulation, resilience, fire resistance and a long service life. Habitech manages the process of certification, accreditation and training of companies, professionals and designers that believe in the ARCA system, to promote the spread of wood construction in Italy. Circular Economy: Habitech created and manages “Greenmap”, a program targeting industries, aiming to foster sustainability as a tool to innovation and development, basing on the international sustainability standards. The activities include conducting trainings on sustainability targeting the enterprises; creating guidelines through the analysis of products and services; conducting LCA and analysis on the products and services; mapping of sustainable industries and products on an online platform. Habitech provides also a “Design for circularity” consultancy approach, which means interacting with the different areas of the company in order to rethink aspects of the production cycle and supply chain management (product design). “Design for circularity” directs the company towards a more circular production and consumption model for the creation of new possibilities and recovery of value.

INSTRUCT - Evidence-based market and policy instruments Implementation across EU to increase the demand for eNergy Skills across conSTRUCTion sector value chain

The project aims to provide an operational framework and set of services serving a new generation of skilled and certified workers and fitters and paving the way to legislative changes that overall will stimulate the demand for energy skills across lifecycle and supply chains. 01 June 2020 – 30 November 2022 7 partners from 7 countries Total cost € 999.062,50 → EU Contribution € 999.062,50 Topic: LC-SC3-EE-3-2019-2020 - Stimulating demand for sustainable energy skills in the construction sector.

BUILD IN WOOD - Sustainable wood value chains for construction of low-carbon multi-storey buildings from renewable resources https://www.build-in-wood.eu/project 

It aims to develop a sustainable and innovative wood value chain for construction of multistory wood buildings, in order to meet the immediate global and European challenges of reducing the GHG emissions from the construction sector. It will develop the materials and components as well as structural systems and façade elements for multistory wood buildings for both new construction and retrofitting applications. The project will deliver a Design Guide – a dynamic co-created online toolbox of documented materials and components. STARDUST – holiSTic And integRateD Urban model for Smart ciTies http://stardustproject.eu/ 

STARDUST’s objective is to introduce low carbon, highly efficient, intelligent, and citizen-oriented cities. This will be done by providing green technical solutions and innovative business models to address the urban challenges identified by the cities involved. These challenges have got to do with the environment, society, mobility, energy, economy and the cities’ visibility. To name a few examples are urban poverty, poor waste management, incremental air pollution and traffic congestion, lack of jobs, high energy cost and poor international recognition. Stardust is set to light up cities across Europe by creating a blueprint for replication using its innovative solutions in ICT, energy, mobility and citizen engagement. OptEEmAL – OPTimised Energy Efficient design platforM for refurbishment At district Level https://www.opteemal-project.eu/ 

OptEEmAL has developed an Optimized Energy Efficient Design Platform able to design energy efficient retrofitting projects that are based on different energy conservation measures to improve the behavior of a district. The tool reduced time delivery and uncertainties and result in improved solutions when compared to business-as-usual practices. Partners have worked on delivering an optimized, integrated and systemic design tool based on an Integrated Project Delivery approach for building and district retrofitting projects. 30 September 2015 – 28 February 2019 13 partners from 8 countries Total cost € 4.748.858,75 → EU Contribution € 4.243.682,25 Topic: EeB-05-2015 Innovative design tools for refurbishment at building and district level

RENEW SCHOOL – Sustainable school building renovation promoting timber prefabrication, indoor environment quality and active use of renewables

The RENEW SCHOOL project aims at retrofitting a great amount of school buildings to highest nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB) standards. It will, by promoting appropriate tools and measures, help to downsize the energy use significantly as well as create and secure comfortable conditions for the pupils and teachers. 31 March 2014 → 28 February 2017 Co-funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme of the European Union.

SouthZEB – nZEB training in the Southern EU countries – Maintaining building traditions

With the objective of fostering the energy efficiency of the building sector through the adoption of near Zero Energy Buildings (buildings that have very high energy performance) concepts in new or existing buildings, the SouthZEB project develops training modules targeted towards specific professionals (Engineers, Architects, municipality technicians and decision makers) in Southern European countries (Greece, Cyprus, Southern Italy and Portugal). The training modules will be implemented by the project partners in the target Southern European Countries (less advanced on the progress towards nearly Zero Energy Buildings), leveraging on the experience and know-how from front runner project partners countries (Austria, UK, Northern Italy). In this way, the SouthZEB project aims to achieve the necessary conditions towards the implementation of the goals established on the EPBD recast (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, 2010/31/EU) regarding nearly Zero Energy Buildings 05 March 2014 → 04 March 2017 Co-funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme of the European Union.

Transparense – Increasing Transparency of Energy Service Markets

The project brought together 20 European partners and was financed by Intelligent Energy Europe Programme of the European Union with co-funding from the project partners. The goal of the Transparense project was to help increase the transparency and trustworthiness of Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) markets throughout Europe. With its twenty partners covering both mature and emerging EPC markets, the project tried to exploit its potential to transfer the know-how across Europe, support EPC markets in Europe and thereby achieve substantial energy efficiency improvement. April 2013 → September 2015 Co-funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme of the European Union.
