Cluster Strategy

Since its foundation in 2009, the strategy of Domotys, the non-profit Spanish Association for the Internationalization and Innovation of the Home Automation companies, has been promoting the interest of the small and medium enterprise, technologic centers and universities. Since 2010 has been recognized as an Innovative Enterprise Group by the Government of Spain.

With this ambitious challenge in mind, Domotys developed its activity and transmitted its strategic view through its members and the citizenship in general.

Domotys works through a cluster strategy, it means that it has a global view of the entire home automation value chain and it is aware of the involved agents of the sector. Therefore, Domotys includes among its associates, universities, technological centers going through big companies and specially a wide representation of SMEs which build the national industry network.

Nowadays, Domotys is composed by 219 members and it is positioned as a referent in the sector within Spain and Europe. Domotys has a continuous contact with its associates which is translated into real approach of the challenges that the companies need to face as well as the market opportunities to reach.

In order to accomplish this purpose, Domotys divides its efforts in four wide areas: the internationalization, the innovation, the funding and training. For each one of these areas, there are design customized services according to the needs of the associated companies in order to add value and improve their competences and position them as leaders within the market out of the national borders.

Domotys focus its attention on the internationalization as the main area of Domotys efforts. The main tools that Domotys uses are the commercial missions and the presence in international tradeshows. It was able to develop an own network of international delegates worldwide which support the associated companies through their local knowledge of the market as well as their expertise in the sector and contacts in the country.

Domotys takes part in different entities in different level: in a regional level Domotys participates in the XEEC (Network of Energetic Entities of Catalonia) favoured by the ICAEN and in the ECREE (Catalan Strategy for Energetic Renewal of Buildings) initiative of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the ICAEN.

Likewise, DOMOTYS is ranged with the Catalan Strategy of Investigation and Innovation for Intelligent Specialisation, the RIS3CAT, and is involved in the industrial strategy of Catalonia, particularly in the field of the energy, chemical and resources

In a national level, DOMOTYS is member of I Innovative Enterprise Group recognised by the Government of Spain.

Success Story / Achievements:

One of the main objectives of the Domotys Cluster is to promote the benefits of home automation. Thus, its members decided to drow up a dissemination notebook addressed to end-users, in order to explain, in simple and direct terms, the advantages of incorporating automation in homes.

The document approaches topics such as energy efficency, safety and comfort. Also explains how automation can improve citizens quality of life while contributing to cities sustainability.

This iniciative is particulary relevant to achieve cooperation of Cluster members towards a common goal.

Domotys members have cooperated in the development of “Smart City, to the intelligent management” document.

This book proposes a definition of Smart City, such as a city capable of managing resources and energy sources optimally, improving people quality of life and optimizing services to improve their profitability of use. It embraces social, technical, politic and functional aspects.

This book belongs to the short and medium term Domotys strategy. “Smart Cities” are a reality, in fact, Cluster companies research, develop and innovate solutions and systems are already making possible for cities to get smarter.
