Access to public support

The Cluster helps their members with the fast and effective implementation of innovative project ideas. We suggest to first submit an idea sketch and prepare a non-binding, financial estimate. With help of the cluster members are able to draw up a meaningful idea sketch.

We also assist upon consulting the draft of the project outline and the accurate processing of administrative forms while filing the complete funding application. Due to long years of experience with funding programs, it became obvious where the emphasis in a funding proposal is to lay, which mistakes can be avoided from the start and which wordings are recommended in the application.

Furthermore we promote a scientific cooperation with regional universities among research and development projects to implement innovative results of research in concrete applications and products.

It requires a risky financing to implement a project idea into an innovation and conduct concrete research and development projects. For this, subsidies and third party funds are available.

Promotion of activities

A professional advertising presence, for example in social networks, is nowadays a requirement to be successful as a company. Through PR and additional cross-linking to closely related industries, a company gains attention in the google-ranking. The E-Mobility Cluster thereby supports the member companies and publishes press releases or current news through a variety of channels: Cluster-website and social media (facebook, twitter, google+). Furthermore, the news are included in the regular newsletter. If there are successful projects within working groups, they are spread to our press distribution list by press release. The cluster also supports companies with participation in joint stands at relevant trade fairs (e.g. eCarTec).

Block.IS, Blockchain Innovationspaces, https://blockis.eu (H2020-INNOSUP-2018-2020)

Block.IS aims to build an open and collaborative cross-border, cross-sectoral innovation ecosystem that will connect over 75 clusters from the financial, logistics and agrifood sectors with ICT players, to generate new value chains and develop innovative solutions embracing blockchain technology, in order to overcome the problems and challenges that the sectors are facing today. The project’s goal is to provide a strong technical and business framework that will support and enable innovators to develop large-scale and competitive market-driven applications, and to ensure post-project sustainability and growth of the Block.IS ecosystem. In order to help innovative SMEs and start-ups to build high-tech, venture-backable enterprises, the Block.IS acceleration programme will provide a total of €2.8 Million in funding to the selected candidates.

In addition to funding and business acceleration support, the Block.IS programme will include a series of events, hackathons and business missions to SME clusters across Europe. Two open calls will be organized which will take place through a 3-phase process: INNOVATE, EXPERIMENT and COMMERCIALIZE.

In the INNOVATE phase, 90 best project ideas will be invited to fine-tune their concepts and present their tech-business pitches at the Block.IS Clusters-Innovators Assembly. The EXPERIMENT phase will select 45 best projects from the previous phase and offer them €50.000 each to develop their proposed projects in close collaboration with relevant cluster networks, sector specialists and technology experts. Finally, the COMMERCIALIZE phase will select 20 projects with the greatest business potential and support them in developing activities associated with the promotion and exploitation of their projects, in order to engage new customers, partners and investors.

ChainReactions, https://www.interreg-central.eu/Content.Node/CHAIN-REACTIONS.html (Interreg central Europe)

The cluster is also participating in Intereg projects.ChainReactions (Interreg central Europe) CHAIN REACTIONS addresses the challenge for industrial regions not benefitting from innovation activities from large leading corporations to increase regional capacity to absorb new knowledge and turn it into competitiveness edge and business value. https://www.interreg-central.eu/Content.Node/CHAIN-REACTIONS.html There is a strong need to help SMEs to overcome capacity shortages for innovation and integration into transnational value chains. The project aims at empowering regional ecosystems with the knowledge and tools to help businesses overcome those barriers and generate sustained growth through value chain innovation. CHAIN REACTIONS focuses thereby on modern approaches considering value chains and their complex developments rather than linear technology transfer approaches. The framework of value chain innovation builds on Porter’s 5 forces framework (new entrants, substitutes, customers, suppliers and rivalry) and transversal innovation drivers: key enabling technologies, resource efficiency, digital transformation and service innovation. The focus is on key sectors: advanced manufacturing, ICT and electronics, energy and environment, health and bioeconomy in accordance with their S3 priorities.

RECiPE4Mobility, COS-CLUSTER-2018-03-02

RECiPE4Mobility stands for Regrouping European Clusters in a Partnership of Excellence for Mobility. RECiPE4Mobility is a 24-months project pursuing the overall objectives of strengthening cluster management excellence while facilitating strategic connections between our clusters and our specialised ecosystems across Europe, in the sector of mobility. Capacity-building and collaboration activities between our cluster organisations, respective members and regional ecosystems, will contribute to the development of our clusters’ professionalized services. In this regard, RECiPE4Mobility will ensure that these new competencies (uptake of advanced technologies, new business models, low-carbon and resource-efficient solutions, creativity and design, skills upgrading, talent attraction, entrepreneurship acceleration, and internationalisation) particularly favour European SMEs, helping them to better address the innovation, growth and globalisation challenges. This priority on SMEs is crucial for the competitiveness of the Union's industrial value chains and to secure a smart, inclusive and sustainable European growth. This is also in line with the priorities defined by the European Commission last year in its Programme for single market, competitiveness of enterprises, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and European statistics and repealing Regulation. Furthermore, the connections and partnering activities which will be carried out by the RECiPE4Mobility consortium will strengthen the links between the different European ecosystems directly involved from Bavaria (DE), Central Hungary (HU), Ile-de-France (FR), Normandie (FR), Norte (PT) and South Netherlands (NL), and their key innovation actors, such as SMEs, clusters networks, regional ecosystems, technology centres and other scaling-up support organisations. Our partnership truly considers cross-regional and cross-sectorial value-chains as the answers to the challenges reshaping the mobility industry.

Success Story / Achievements:

Innovationplatform electric bus

The eBus "EMIL" is a platform for companies and research institutions to test innovations in practice. At the same time, it is a demonstrator in the context of possible funding projects as well as a support for the product development of companies of the Regensburg eMobility Cluster. The platform is unique, as all projects has to care about the fact that the bus always have to be in roadworty state, because it is always used a bus in practical application for transporting passanger. In the first project the cluster member AVL subsitutet the orginal electrical engine by an engine which was was developed in-house by AVL Software and Functions in Regensburg. In cooperation with the Easter Bavarian Technical University, the company converted one of the five Emil buses to an alternative drive concept. The technology specialist Bertrandt uses the EMIL E-bus from Regensburg as a research and development platform. On the old city route, raw sensor data is recorded using LIDAR and processed further for central research areas such as object recognition. This will support autonomous driving in urban environments in the future.

R&D Project Multirange

The companies AVL Software and Functions GmbH and Prettl Elektrik Automotive GmbH are developing this ultra-fast charging system for electric vehicles at the Regensburg site. It has a modular design and incorporates established standards and charging capacities and can charge up to 500kW. For comparison: Tesla Superchargers have so far achieved 90 kW, the latest 145 kW "only" kW charging power. In addition, a bidirectional connection to the smart grid is planned in this project. This will enable the development of a versatile, comprehensive and thus future-proof charging concept.

The project was conceived together with the E-Mobility Cluster Regensburg and will be implemented by the end of 2020. It is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy as part of the "Electromobility and Innovative Drive Technologies for Mobile Applications (BayEMA)" funding program.

R & D Network IntelliZell

Existing power grid infrastructures are insufficiently prepared for the requirements of the energy system transformation and the inherent e-mobility. Grid-related, intelligent technical solutions can defuse grid-unstable situations even at the low-voltage level, so that cost-intensive, higher-level grid regulation can be prevented. Grid stability can be improved by focusing on the grid-related behaviour of producers such as biogas plants: Through the appropriate integration of energy storage systems, but also through disruptive approaches such as block chain technology, which should enable the control of energy networks through smart contracts. The network brings together specialists from different fields in joint R&D projects to develop innovative solutions with the following main topics:

- Energy generation and energy storage - Grid stabilization through intelligent control of feeders - smart contracting and Blockchain technology

R & D project development of a charging station with an integrated parking space management module in cooperation with the company Schmitz GmbH

The cluster company Schmitz GmbH (headquarters in Regensburg, 5 employees) has approached the cluster because it wants to integrate the existing optical sensor solution for parking space management in charging stations for electric vehicles. With the help of the cluster, the Technical University of Deggendorf was identified as a suitable partner for technology and development. The Technical University of Deggendorf, together with Schmitz GmbH, will develop a first prototype.
