1.  Promoting foreign investments in cross border area, by creating and developing cross border sectoral poles of competitiveness

Romania-Bulgaria CBC Programme 2007-2013

MIS-ETC 35

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Dolj - Vidin cross border area is a relatively low developed area, with few sustainable business partnerships and business climate less developed compared to EU25. Investments are low, despite good geographical position and infrastructure opportunities - TEN-T, Danube river, airports, inter-modal transport facilities On medium and long term, the project will create a dynamic relation between Romanian and Bulgarian cross border businesses, characterized by high competitiveness and technological innovations that will attract investors and sustain economic development in the area.

The main objective of the project is to support sustainable economic development by promoting the regional opportunities in order to attract foreign investments to the cross-border area. More specifically, the project aims to identify the local and regional advantages and develop instruments for their promotion at regional and international level.

Activities carried out are oriented to limiting cross border problems in business area, through increased information, coordination and support facilities - networking meetings, such as economic missions and sectoral conferences Also, the project creates the instruments for attracting business investors and improving their perceptions on the area, by pointing out, through regional study and cross border portal, the advantages and value-added resources in the area.

The project activities are oriented towards 2 different groups of interest in the cross-border area: SME’s and public authorities.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The “Danube Velo Route” project is a natural result of the efforts of the lead partner Agency for Regional Development and Business Center – Vidin and its Romanian partners to promote sustainable tourism in the region. Success Story / Achievements:

Romanian-Bulgarian Cross-Border Project - under implementation:

Improve the planning, development and coordination of cross border transport systems for better connections to TEN-T transport network

Project “E-bike Net” addresses the issue of sustainable individual transport mobility. The current structure of the transport infrastructure in the cross-border area is very centralized, connecting smaller towns with the center, thus neglecting the connections between the smaller towns themselves, especially the towns along the Danube and between the 2 countries. Furthermore, public transport could never have the flexibility to provide in the district towns the means of transport for the wanted destination at any moment and without changing different vehicles.

We aim to create and promote a network of electrical bicycles, which people can use to move freely in the whole cross-border area of Bulgaria and Romania using the current road network or some dirt roads and to be able to charge the bicycles in a range of up to 70 kilometers throughout the cbc area.

The budget for our operation is 768 392,92euro

Project activities will be: study for e-bike network; preparation and creation of the network though purchase and placement of e-bikes and charging stations in the whole cbc area; training the operators for e-bike maintenance and small repairs; promotional campaign; information and publicity campaign, organization of promotional events; participation at tourism fairs; project management.

The main result of the project will be a created and well-promoted, recognizable network of e-bicycles in 32 towns in the cbc area.
