Cluster Strategy
Mission/Objectives:

The Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid supports its nearly 400 cluster members in order to foster economic growth and technological innovation based on increasing the quality and economic efficiency - especially for injection moulded parts made of thermoplastic and thermoset materials. Being based on a strong foundation of nearly 300 members in its shareholder association, the institute is a continuously growing network, focused on sustainability and is exclusively financially supported by external, industrial funds. The network's activities focus on surface engineering and decorative finishing processes for plastic components, the modification and functionalization of moulds/component surfaces and the analysis and testing. The institute itself is ISO 9001 certified and equipped with an accredited testing laboratory (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2000) to ensure the provision of continuously enhanced services.

Other
  • Mold4ProdE: Mold4prodE aimed to develop and assess a method which would give tool makers the opportunity to design and deliver more quickly 'turn key intelligent' tools to end users.
  • MONSOON: - MOdel-based coNtrol framework for Site-wide OptimizatiON of data-intensive processes - aims to establish data-driven methodology to support identification and exploitation of optimization potentials by applying model-based predictive controls so as to perform plant and site-wide optimization of production process. The ambition of MONSOON project is shared by 2 significant process industries from the sectors of aluminium and plastic.
  • Rotofast: Development of an efficient heating and cooling technology system for rotational moulding, which dramatically reduces cycle time, product cost and energy consumption
  • Learning for Plastics: Development of a web-based E-Learning platform for process and tooling technology (7 partners from Europe: D, F, NL, B, A, E)

National programs: BMBF, KMUinnovativ, KMU-NetC, ZIM

Regional programs: NRW-Leitmarkt

Promotion
Why should partners choose you for cooperation?:

The Institute has a high Expertise and a huge European-wide Network for plastics, surface technology and metal-plastic or glass-plastic composites. It is a private sector company and takes part in a lot of third party financed projects.

We offer services and cooperation in the field of testing, damage-analysis, process optimization, simulation, surface-treatment, mold-technology, worldwide trainings and more.

We are also interested to widen up our Network, especially on an international level.
