Cluster Strategy
Mission/Objectives:

The Cluster MEDEE – Motors and Electrical Devices for Energy Efficiency - brings together companies and academics around collaborative Research & Development & Innovation (R&D&I) projects. MEDEE federates a community of actors specialised in electrical engineering: multinational companies, innovative SMEs, start-ups, laboratories and universities. The Cluster MEDEE R&D&I topics are related to several sectors and target markets:

  • Industrial processes energy efficiency
  • Electricity generation from renewable
  • Smart Transmission System
  • Transportation (rail, More Electric Aircraft, electrical vehicle…)

Since June 2017, the Cluster MEDEE develops a specific strategy to support collaborative projects between its members and African stakeholders. The objective is to support concrete energy projects on the continent, while strengthening the electricity sector in France. We pursue mid-term and long-term objectives in Africa as our action implies opening new markets and developing synergies in the R&D sector and training with African partners. The cluster MEDEE works for the operational implementation of this ambition, by delivering supports for:

  • access to funding and financing solutions,
  • identifying economic, academic or institutional partners in Africa and France,
  • technical evaluation and improvement of projects,
  • international promotion of innovative solutions from partners

Leader of the workpackage “Communication, dissemination and replication” of the LEOPARD Project as part of the LEAP-RE answer to the H2020 call LC-SC3-JA-4-2018 to develop long-term joint European-African research and innovation partnership on renewable energy. LEOPARD aims to implement and disseminate micro-grid technology in West Africa, especially Benin and Senegal.

Promotion
Success Story / Achievements:

  • Production of a reference document on the regional skills concerning the electrification of Africa in 2018 : available here .
  • Support to the creation of the Beninese Cluster “Energies and Applications” as part of the project coordinated by the Hauts-de-France Regional Council and the city of Sèmè Podji to build Sèmè City, a campus dedicated to innovation, training and entrepreneurship.
  • Ongoing Project in Guinea to support the development of professional training in electrical engineering: production of a feasibility study on the creation of a Guinean Cluster in electrical engineering and promotion of the Cluster MEDEE members in Guinea.
  • Project partner of Solar & Wind for Electricity and Water (hybrid production of electricity and water in an autonomous, transportable and adjustable way). MEDEE provided support for project building, communication and search for financing.
  • Leader of the workpackage “Communication, dissemination and replication” of the LEOPARD Project as part of the LEAP-RE answer to the H2020 call LC-SC3-JA-4-2018 to develop long-term joint European-African research and innovation partnership on renewable energy. LEOPARD aims to implement and disseminate micro-grid technology in West Africa, especially Benin and Senegal.
  • Facilitator of the CORREI regional action: coordination of the Smart Transmission System projects in the Hauts-de-France region and optimization of their financing strategy.
  • Member of two European organisations for Research, Development & Innovation: the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) funding organisation for research and innovation networks and the ETIP (European Technology & Innovation Platform) Smart Networks for Energy Transition.
