Mission/Objectives: 

The Basque Steel Cluster is a non profit organization originates from SIDEREX (Spanish Association of Steelworks Exporters) with the mission of improving the competitiveness of the Basque steel sector companies through cooperation and taking advantage of synergies not only in Foreign Trade but in other key areas such as technological and non-technological innovation as well.

Details of support services: 

In order to improve the competitiveness through cooperation, the Cluster´s main activities are organized around the following services:

- SUPPORT FOREIGN TRADE: organization and coordination of foreign trade delegations, participation at main international trade fairs and conferences, identify and follow up collaboration projects, enhance the collaboration between companies already introduced in some specific countries and identify the necessities and interests of cluster members in the international market area.

- CHANELLING INFORMATION: monthly and annual reports analysing market opportunities, specific technological report, development of a competitive inteligence system, access to contacts, organising events and workshops with experts.

- WORK GROUPS PROMOTION: Identifications of synergies and promotion of work groups for potential collaboration projets. "CONECTANDO OPORTUNIDADES - CONNECTING OPORTUNITIES" projet focused on the 3 subsectors of the cluster: steelmills, steel processors and engineering and equipment manufacturers.

-NETWORKING: promotion of public-private collaboration, interconnection of company members identifying high-added value necessities and oportunities.

-TAILORED SERVICES FOR MEMBERS: personalized information, market studies, stadistics reports, enquiries chanelling

Siderex is currently made up 48 Basque companies, ranging from carbon, stainless and alloy steel mills, steel processors to engineering and equipment manufacturers, spare parts, components and services companies for steel plants, so our members complete almost the entire value chain of the steel sector.

This situation allow us to identify 5 strategic lines and joint actions between our members and external partners based on not only in the client/final applications area but also in the client/market area:

1. Support Basque steel companies developing markets (internationalisation)

2. Develope R+D+i projets in cooperation between companies members, technological centers and public authorities

3. Enhance the effective cooperation in common interests of cluster´s members in business innovation area.

4. Consolidate the Cluster and position the Basque steel sector as an international reference.

5. Improve Cluster connections with the business enviroment.
