Cluster Strategy
Mission/Objectives:

The main task of the cluster is to create a platform for connecting individual participants (stakeholders) dealing with hydrogen technologies in specific projects related to the production, distribution, storage and use of hydrogen. Due to the nature of hydrogen, which connects different sectors of industry, projects included in the cluster organization will include partners from industry, research and development, state and public administration as well as educational institutions. The role of the cluster is to provide all participants in individual projects with an effective tool for mutual communication and cooperation in project implementation. At the same time, the role of the cluster is to search for and connect domestic and foreign partners with a relevant focus in individual projects with the aim of mutual exchange of information and knowledge.

Please explain:

NVAS has emerged several activities towards the participation of the members on the hydrogen oriented events in South Korea and Japan (Hydrogen days, special hydrogen fairs with possibility of visiting the research and development sites), where the participants could benefit from the expertise and experience of Japan and S. Korea in the field of hydrogen. The activities were targeted not only to cluster members but to the whole hydrogen society in Slovakia. NVAS is also the member of Asia Pacific Hydrogen association with access to the latest development and know how of the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Association members.

In Central Europe countries, together with HYTEP (Czech Hydrogen technology platform), Hungarian Hydrogen and Fuel cell Association and Polish hydrogen association, we are organizing series of workshops in every participating country (Ostrava, Budapest, Kosice, Katowice) oriented to bring the expertise and experience form the western EU countries to CEE region, to create the networking opportunities for the stakeholders among the CEE countries experts and stakeholders and promote the hydrogen technologies to authorities and governments. The participation on the workshops has been opened for all members as well as the whole hydrogen stakeholders. This initiative has been partially co-financed through Visegrad fund (https://www.visegradfund.org/). Due to the Covid 19 restriction, only Ostrava and Budapest workshops have been organized, Kosice and Katowice have been postponed to 4Q 2020 - 2021

Together with Austrian Hydrogen Association we have organized the visit of the Voestalpine steel making plant in Linz, where they used green hydrogen as a primary source of energy (https://www.h2future-project.eu/partners). The aim of the visit has been the know how transfer and experience sharing of already realized projects for the industry, research and development organizations and authority stakeholders in Slovakia. The project in Linz has been co-funded by the FCH JU (https://www.fch.europa.eu/). NVAS klaster has a goal to realize similar projects in Slovakia with different industry partners and organizations.

NVAS together with local municipality Mocenok and industry partner Duslo a.s. has secured  the Project Development Assistance (PDA)  for the H2Muctynic project.

The PDA initiative was set up by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) to allow areas with promising hydrogen deployment plans to receive expert support in developing their projects. This is controlled under a public services contract whereby a specialist consultancy company (Element Energy) is appointed to provide the assistance.

Element Energy is a strategic energy consultancy company which specialises in the analysis of low carbon energy with specialism in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, with a wealth of experience in market assessments, technical due diligence and developing and assessing business cases for hydrogen projects including H2MEH2 HaulJIVE and H2 Bus Europe and are partners in many others such as REFHYNE and Gigastack

Promotion
Success Story / Achievements:

In 2019 - 2020, NVAS together with universities in Kosice and regioanl governement has prepared the Hydrogen Strategy of  Kosice self governing region (https://nvas.sk/Hydrogen_Study_Kosice_Region_2020.pdf). The document is first of its kind in Slovakia and covered all the aspcets of hydrogen usage in Kosice region. During the process we managed to cooperate with different stakeholders (authorities, universities, R&D centers, industry) in order to prepare the detailed info and knwledge for the public and decision makers.

Why should partners choose you for cooperation?:

NVAS klaster provides the platform for the stakeholders and participants for cooperation on projects related to the hydrogen. NVAS klaster brings experience, know how, expertise and best practises from EU and international to Slovakia and provides an effective channel for the contacts and cooperation between the stakeholders. One of the main goal is to interconnect the universities and R&D organizations with industry, municipalities and authorities in order to develop a portfolio of hydrogen projects (applications) in Slovakia.
