Success Story / Achievements:

Reshaping the face of the Romanian ITC industry through a cluster

Being a SME in Romania is not an easy job – the bureaucracy combined with an undeveloped infrastructure, the aging population and the scarce human workforce are four factors that can explain why Romania is on the last place in Europe when it comes to SME. The most pressing issue is the fact that the human resource is constantly looking to get hired in multinationals or companies that can act as a platform for going abroad. Romanian companies are rarely the first pick for talented programmers, even though in such companies their contribution has a bigger impact and they can develop faster. In the same time, the Romanian entrepreneurs face a difficult legislative landscape that goes through constant changes. Lots of SME disappear under this pressure or they stop innovating because is too expensive to invest in a better product or service. This is the reality of Romania since 2015.

In this harsh context, 20 Romanian companies, leaders in their niche of business, had a growing appetite for innovation. Visionaries by day, hard workers by night, 20 business man came together and decided that something has to be done in order to have a proper place where they can innovate thus making their companies thrive in the market. This is how Smart Alliance – Innovation Technology Cluster came to life with the sole purpose to act as a catalyst for ethics, transparency and innovation and it soon payed off.

In only 2 years, the combined numbers of the companies that form our cluster rose with more than 30% per year, sky rocketing from 26M turnover in EUR, 600 employees and collaborators and 2.000 projects (national and international) to more than 42.1M turnover in EUR, 735 employees and collaborators and 2.300 projects, covering more than 35 countries in the whole world.

2017 was the year when our cluster began to activate more in the local and international market, after a year of accommodating with this new type of commitment. Smart Alliance – Innovation Technology Cluster started to change the B2B ecosystem through events that brought the public administration and private companies at the same table to meet the few Romanian companies that breath innovation and can successfully deliver projects while maintaining a growing flux of quality.

Smart Business Technology Series is a series of events that gather the most innovative and new developed technologies and present them to the interested parties (public authorities, private companies, SME etc). Through these events our goal is to have the B2B market updated with technology developed by our members. The topics cover the most important trends, newest technologies and software and legislation that affects the IT&C.

In the same time we managed to get our messages heard very clearly by coming partners with some of the biggest economical and financial newspapers in Romania, like Economica, Wall-Street, Bursa, ”doingbusiness”, Market Watch and many more.

Smart Alliance Summit is our annual event that brings the big technology players at the same table with NGO’s, SME’s and public authorities to debate on the most pressing topics regarding the developing of our industry in Romania. Last year we had four panels: SMART Education Debate, SMART City Debate, SMART Innovation and SMART GDPR Debate with more than 20 local and international speakers. This made our Summit the biggest solely B2B event that gathered more than 450 decision makers to participate at what was a solution seeking journey that would generate viable answers regarding on how to grow and develop in our socio-economical context.

Our plans for what is to come are to:

  • Implement a Smart Alliance Academy that will help students improve while learning what it means to be innovative in ICT sector – a system to combine internships & apprenticeships in our member companies and education within standard schools/ universities. Such way the student develops under real conditions and they are well prepared to enter the job market at a young age (while the firms that participate in their training are more willing to hire them when they graduate, consequently reducing youth unemployment rate);
  • Create a R&D lab inside Smart Alliance cluster where our members can develop innovative products and solutions designed to cover multiple areas of interest.

Why should partners choose you for cooperation?:

We cover more than 130 unique and different IT services with tailored made products that made our cluster recognized all over the world.

Smart Alliance cluster through its members which are IT companies demonstrated experience in: innovative solutions; IT infrastructure; complete and integrated services; IT consultancy and training. Production, distribution, utilities, financial services, telecommunications, public administration, education, human resources are just a small part of the economical, administrative and educational areas that SMART ALLIANCE CLUSTER covers with IT products and services.
