Cluster Strategy
Mission/Objectives:

The cluster Pole Vehicule du Futur (PVF) has been created in 2005 to stimulate the synergies between enterprises, education and research in the field of vehicles and mobility of the future. PVF aims at creating added value and employment and at enhancing competitiveness for companies in the French regions Grand-Est and Burgundy-Franche-Comté.

Therefore, PVF works around four strategic sectors:

  • Energy and Propulsion
  • Life cycle
  • Infrastructure & Communication
  • Mobility services

And on five different markets:

  • Automotive components
  • Electric vehicles
  • Hydrogen vehicles
  • Recycling
  • Mobility services

The PVF totals today 390 members (October 2018, out of them 85% private companies) and has a well known notoriety in France and abroad, especially in Germany and Switzerland.

EACN for Joint Industrial Modernisation Investments

  • Funding programme: COSME
  • Project duration : 10/2018 - 10/2020

EACN for Joint Industrial Modernisation Investments is a project submitted by 6 partners of the European Automotive Cluster Network EACN. It amis at initiating and facilitating enhanced cluster-to-cluster collaboration as well as R&D cooperation and joint investments from clsuter members to face common challenges of the automotive industry and improve competitiveness. the project addresses four main topics: (1) Virutalisation for planning processes, (2) Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, (3) Elasticity of production processes and (4) Skills and competences. PVF is coordinator of this project.

e-MOTICON

  • Funding programme: Interreg Alpine Space
  • Project duration: 12/2016 - 05/2019

e-MOTICON aims at developing a deployement strategy for recharging infrastructures for electric vehicles, ensuring a homogeneous and well adapted recharging infrastructure network fitting to the special conditions of the alpin space (topography, meterology, tourists, ...). The main outcomes will be a white book for future public and private operators as well as a Alpin Space community around electric mobility.

ABATTRELIFE

  • Funding programme: FP7 Electromobility
  • Project duration: 06/2012 - 05/2015

The main objective of the project was the development and implementation of a knowledge base on (invehicle) high voltage traction battery deterioration; a safe management structure for EV battery recycling; and strategies and technologies for battery re-use and recycling (in particular lithium recycling).

CROME

  • Funding programme: DEUFRAKO
  • Project duration: 01/2011 - 12/2013

The CROME Project aimed at deploying coherently charging stations in Alsace and the neraby Germany, and at testing a fleet of electric vehicles in an transnational environment.

E-Light - Advanced structural light-weight architectures for electric vehicles

  • Funding programme: FP7
  • Project duration: 01/2011 - 12/2013

The E-LIGHT project targeted urban electric vehicles (EVs). The project aimed at exploring aspects and requirements needed for designing optimal EV architectures.

ELMOs - Electromobility solutions for cities and regions

  • Funding programme: FP7 Regions
  • Project duration: 12/2011 - 11/2014

The overall goal of the proposed project was to promote more sustainable transport through the development of electromobility solutions for cities and regions (ELMOS). The project delivered concepts for a better exchange of electromobility knowledge at regional and EU level, concepts for new business models and for cross-border field tests.

ENEVATE - European Network of Electric Vehicles and Transferring Expertise

  • Funding programme: Interreg IVB NWE 2007-2013
  • Project duration: 01/2009 - 12/2014

ENEVATE aimed at facilitating and supporting an accelerated introduction of electric mobility in NW Europe through structured transnational cooperation between public authorities and business representatives.

S_Life - European Synergies and Co-operation for Sustainable vehicle along the Life-Cycle

  • Funding programme: FP7 RoK

S_LIFE project will develop strategies and a Joint Action Plan to link, mobilize and coordinate regional resources with more focus on new scientific, economic and structural coherent greening solutions challenges.

Promotion
Success Story / Achievements:

Between 2005 and October 2018, PVF and its members got 198 projects funded for more than 680 M€. 33 projects got European funding (FP6, FP7, H2020, COSME, Interreg, Eurostars, …), and the others profited from French national and/or private funding.

PVF is also initiator and partner of the Car2Road Testing Center for ITS and connected mobility situated near the French-German-Swiss border triangle.

In January 2017, PVF and eight other European automotive clusters created the European Automotive Cluster Network EACN aiming at developing projects between their members and at cooperating in common R&D and investment projects focussing problems of the factory of the future in the automotive sector with its multiple ongoing challenges (electric vehicles, autonomous vehicle, shared vehicles, ...). This network is at the initiative of the co-funded COSME project 'EACN for Joint Industrial Modernisation Investments'.

PVF is also member of the cluster network Pôle Auto Europe regrouping the automotive clusters out of the Belgium-Luxemburgian-German-French Greater Region area.

Why should partners choose you for cooperation?:

PVF has a huge experience especially in the fields of electric mobility, fuel cells and hydrogen mobility, as well as the industry of the future – Industry 4.0.

Via its members, PVF has access to different testing centers for automotive, transport, mobility and industry 4.0 issues:

  • R&D Moteurs by Faurecia Clean Mobility: high performance test benches for ICE engine tests
  • ERCOS: test center for ergonomic virtual systems
  • 4iTech: test center for Industry 4.0 solutions
  • Platinum3D: test center for additive manufacturing (industrial 3D printing)
