Cluster Strategy
Mission/Objectives:

Wagralim, driving forward growth and innovation in the food and agricultural industries

Wagralim is one of the six competitive clusters created in Wallonia - Belgium. The Cluster unites businesses from the food and agricultural industries, as well as stakeholders in research and training.  Its mission is to booster the creation of added value in agro-industrial companies.

To this end, it relies on three tools : innovation, development of partnerships and international actions. It oversees innovative and ambitious partnership projects involving R&D, investment, internationalisation and training. This means that wagralim can help its members achieve critical mass, become more competitive and accelerate their growth.

The Cluster has defined four inter-connected strategic themes to provide a framework for all cooperation between wagralim’s businesses and partners.

Theme 1 – “Health” foods and Nutritional quality

Theme 2 – Industrial efficiency

Theme 3 – Packaging and organic packaging

Theme 4 – Development of sustainable agriculture networks

The agricultural industry cluster is keen to make these themes areas in which Wallonia excels by giving businesses in the sector the tools they need to incorporate these strategic skills into their needs. The research/innovation, training, investment and export support projects will fit in with these themes.

Research and innovation

Wagralim lends its support to partnerships to

  • identify and find partners from the worlds of science and industry
  • initiate joint projects which would be impossible to lead individually
  • nurture new relationships by taking part in clustering and networking initiatives

The Cluster works with its members to set their projects up and helps with communication with public authorities. It offers a range of services to make sure projects are sustained, helping with communication, internationalisation and information (market research, monitoring etc).

Internationalisation

Members can take part in trips and trade missions (funding for travel expenses), and benefit from the Cluster's international network. International activities focus on integrating Wagralim into the network of foreign Clusters to expose companies and partners to international skills and markets. In practice, Wagralim offers its members:

  • Specific advice for new export markets
  • The opportunity to penetrate new markets with other partners of the Cluster
  • Funding for market research connected to the Cluster's projects.
  • International visibility

Maximum visibility

WagrALIM introduces businesses and research centres, whatever their size, to other contacts working in the same field. Involvement in approved innovation projects gives members a higher profile in key markets, as well as excellent references. Practically, the Cluster brings together its members' skills and knowledge by creating a base of skills and expertise which all members of WagrALIM can benefit from.
