The Catalan Energy Cluster Launches New Working Group for Sustainable Building Initiatives
The founding meeting of the new Sustainable Building Working Group was held last week. The working group, promoted by partners Wattega-ERF, GP9, and NTT Data, aims to address current challenges, such as the decarbonization of the built environment and adaptation to new European regulations, with particular attention to the recent Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Additionally, the group will explore new trends and innovations that contribute to generating a positive and sustainable impact on the environment.
The day began with the presentation of the new EPBD by Ainhoa Mata, head of the Buildings Unit at the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), who outlined both the immediate and long-term challenges for complying with the objectives of decarbonizing the built environment.
A debate then followed to gather proposals for the group's activity plan, during which all participants contributed initiatives that will be developed in the coming months. Topics discussed included financing for rehabilitation, Energy Efficiency Certificates (CAEs), energy poverty, access to data, monitoring, certifications, and training.
The session concluded with a visit to the NTT Data offices, where participants enjoyed panoramic views of Barcelona and learned about the operation of a highly automated office certified to LEED Platinum and WELL standards.
