Cluj Innovation Days is a major annual event dedicated to encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship and to forging cross-industry and cross-sector collaborations for the emergence of new business models with societal impact.

After two years of online and hybrid editions, in 2023, Cluj IT Cluster, the main organizer of the event, has designed an agenda tailor-made for small and medium enterprises across the country, public institutions, researchers, and innovators.

On the 26th of May, starting at 13:00 CEST / 14:00 EEST, the conference activities will include an international panel discussion on ''A new dawn in the health sector“. We bring along experts from the academic, business and public sectors to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the health sector and how technology can help in some cases.

Outline of the webinar:

Topic 1 [ 5 minutes]: Welcome & opening remarks about the DESIRE project, by Andrei Kelemen, CEO of Cluj IT Cluster.

Topic 2 [30 minutes]: Dr. Andreas Bender, Professor for Molecular Informatics, Cambridge University

Andreas Bender, PhD, is a Professor for Molecular Informatics at Cambridge University, working on data analysis methods related to compound safety and efficacy, and Chief Technology & Informatics Officer (CITO) at PangeAI, part of Pangea Botanica, based in London/UK and Berlin/Germany. Previously he was a Director for Digital Life Sciences at Nuvisan in Berlin, as well as an Associate Director for Data Science and AI in the Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Sciences group at AstraZeneca.

Topic 3 [15 minutes]: Ioana Neagoe, Professor Medical Biotechnology, UMF Cluj-Napoca

Ioana Berindan-Neagoe, PhD, is a Professor of Medical Biotechnology at the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Director of The Research Center for Functional Genomics, Biomedicine and Translational Medicine. She is conducting several significant projects, including two important Marie Sklodowska Curie Rise projects to train young investigators. Professor Berindan-Neagoe leads scientific projects in genomics and transcriptomics in cancer, regenerative medicine and immune diseases. During these years, she developed the Oncology Research Platform in the Oncology Institute. She coordinated 25 scientists from 2009 till 2021 as Scientific Director of the Oncology Institute, promoting scientific activity.

Topic 4 [15 minutes]: Mircea Vadan, Managing Partner, Activize

Mircea and his team activities are related to startup scouting, acceleration programs, fundraising support and angel investing; while being active in organizations as Spherik Accelerator, Activize, Transylvania Angels Network, Cluj Startups, FreshBlood.ro,and RoStartup. He has been active in the Romanian startup ecosystem in the past 10 years, at the beginning with his own startups and later on working on innovation programs in Romania and Eastern Europe.

Topic 5 [30 minutes]: Panel discussion

Discussions will be moderated by Laviniu Chis, Department Coordinator, INNO – Rethinking Business Network and Andrei Kelemen, CEO, Cluj IT Cluster.
