Description
The chemical industry is a vital player in the EU economy - many goods that are manufactured in Europe rely on chemicals for a wide range of functions. Like other industrial ecosystems, the chemical industry must transform its business models and value chains to contribute to a green, digital, and resilient European economy. This transition comes with challenges such as sustainability, access to critical resources and ensuring a stable supply chain of raw materials, energy, as well as achieving climate neutrality.
In January 2023, the European Commission published the Transition Pathway for the Chemical Industry. This document outlines the major steps to support investments and identifies about 190 actions to achieve the green and digital transition of the EU chemical industry and improve its resilience. Now, they published a first progress report on the advances made to transform the sector.
The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, organised the EU Clusters Talk “Advancing the Transition: Key Developments in the Chemical Industry” on 10 July, 8:30 – 9:45 CET, to present the first achievements in the implementation of the Transition Pathway for the Chemical Industry as well as to discuss the role of clusters to support the transition.
Speakers included:
- Athanasios G. Konstandopoulos, Chief Scientific Advisor CHORUS Cluster, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Aristotle University
- Malgorzata Woch, European Projects and Collaboration Manager, AXELERA
- Monika Bańka, Network & Policy Coordinator, European Chemical Regions Network
- Susan Costello, Network Director, Bio Pharma Chem Skillnet
This event is part of regular online meetings brought to the cluster community by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform. They offer up-to-date insights into the latest industrial policies and clusters’ involvement, projects, and best practices, the latest ECCP news, and funding opportunities. The EU Clusters Talks are a space to exchange knowledge and to discuss cluster-relevant topics, which will change with every meeting.
