On November 26, 2024, the most advanced combined heat and power plant in Europe was officially opened in Sokołów Podlaski! This groundbreaking achievement represents a giant leap toward sustainable energy and innovation, setting new benchmarks for Europe.
💡 The Journey of Success
It all began in 2017, when the Mazovia Cluster ICT initiated the Local Energy Cluster "Safe and Clean Energy for Sokołów" (LKE Sokołów), with its strategy approved by the Ministry of Energy. By 2021, ECN S.A., a leader in smart energy systems, assembled a consortium with Energotechnika, Przedsiębiorstwo Usług Inżynieryjno-Komunalnych in Sokołów Podlaski, Biogas East, and the Building Emissions Certification Institute to turn this vision into reality.
⚡ Green Energy Leadership
The project, executed under a contract with the National Centre for Research and Development, integrates 95% green energy to power the city's heat-energy system. The innovative architecture combines:
• Cogeneration engines
• Heat pumps
• Biogas boilers
The system uses organic biogas and is hydrogen-ready. It also supports compressed biomethane (bioCNG) production, paving the way for clean fuel in public transport and agriculture.
🚀 A Vision Beyond Regulations
This investment leads the way in green transformation, exceeding EU energy efficiency directives set for 2050. With future plans to expand the system's capacity to 10 MW, Sokołów is poised to remain at the forefront of sustainable energy.

ECN S.A. is already planning the fourth stage of the "Safe and Clean Energy for Sokołów" strategy for 2025–2028, ensuring continuous innovation and development.
