The Regional Direct Air Capture (DAC) Hubs program will develop four domestic direct air capture hubs in the United States. Each will demonstrate a DAC technology or suite of technologies at a commercial scale with the potential for capturing at least 1 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually from the atmosphere. Once captured, the CO2 will be permanently stored in a geologic formation or converted into new products.
Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, the Regional DAC Hubs Program received a combined $3.5 billion to help accelerate the demonstration and deployment of direct air capture technologies, supporting efforts to create good-paying jobs, reduce pollution, and reinforce America’s global competitiveness in clean energy technologies.
Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, non-profit entities, for-profit entities, tribal nations, state and local governmental entities, incorporated consortia, and unincorporated consortia.
