Triturats la Canya and Retexcycle demonstrates a value chain traceability technology to track amounts and content of recycled fibers

Triturats la Canya and Retexcycle have successfully presented their innovative demonstrator to guarantee value chain traceability of recycled fibers, developed during a 6-month project.

The project was made possible thanks to the financial support from EuroBoosTex, a Eurocluster project funded by the European Commission aiming to make European textile value chains more resilient.

Triturats la Canya, a well-established company in textile recycling, and Retexcycle, an industry leader in textile traceability solutions, joined forces to develop a ground-breaking traceability system for recycled fibers. This system combines photoluminescent tracers and digital twin technologies to provide end-to-end transparency of recycled fibers, ensuring full compliance with upcoming due diligence and anti-greenwashing regulations.

The new technology integrates traceability markers within shredded fibers (Pre- and Post-consumer), making it possible to track them throughout the entire lifecycle of textiles, from fiber production to finished fabrics.

The demonstrator has been tested and validated, proving that it can be applied effectively within textile manufacturing processes. This cutting-edge solution addresses key challenges in the industry, such as the inability to truly verify the origins and actual contents of recycled materials. The project’s success marks a major step forward in fighting greenwashing and ensuring textile circularity.

During the demonstration event, the prototype was tested in real-world settings, and both Retexcycle and Triturats la Canya received positive feedback from industry stakeholders. Triturats la Canya has already begun implementing this technology across its product portfolio, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

This collaboration highlights the critical role of innovation in boosting eco-friendly practices within the textile sector. Both companies remain dedicated to scaling up this technology, setting a new standard for traceability and transparency in textile recycling.

Both companies emphasize the importance of collaboration and support from the Catalan Cluster of Advanced Textile Materials, Tèxtils.CAT, which has been instrumental in enabling the development of the technology demonstration. This innovative project addresses a critical challenge in the textile industry: ensuring real traceability and sustainability in the supply chain.
