DANUBIOVALNET stands for:

• DEVELOPMENT OF A JOINT BIO-BASED INDUSTRY CLUSTER POLICY STRATEGY • CLUSTERS CONNECTING ENTERPRISES TRANSNATIONALLY • NEW BIO-BASED VALUE CHAINS IN THE DANUBE REGION • ECO-INNOVATIONS FOR SUPPORTING THE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The transition of a fossil-based to a bio-based industry addresses some of the main challenges identified in the Danube region. The development of new bio-based value chains from primary production to consumer markets needs to be done by connecting enterprises from different regions and industries. But due to a missing holistic transnational approach, Danube actors in the bio-based industry still operate disconnected and cannot properly benefit from the huge potential.

Clusters as the representatives of many enterprises are chosen to organize the industry cooperation and creation of new value chains, because they are sustainable partners and guarantee the upgradeability in the dimension industry, sciences and politics. One of the planned outputs of this project will be the development of a Joint Bio-based Industry Cluster Policy Strategy. For further information, please visit our website.

Outputs achieved so far:

  1. Country Reports

Based on ten country reports for Baden-Württemberg, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Montenegro a synthesis report about “The bio-based Status in the Danube Region” was developped. Each of the ten country reports and the aggregated report of the whole Danube region had the objective to provide an important initial overview of the state of the bioeconomy for their affiliated regions in the multi-country Danube macro region.

The reports prepared offer concrete observations on the current regional situation regarding the strengths and weaknesses associated with bio-based products, suppliers and markets as well as innovation opportunities and R&D competences.

  2. Cluster Mapping

Based on nine mappings from Baden-Württemberg, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria regarding cluster-initiatives and value chains, the Danube Wide Cluster Mapping was performed. The Cluster Mapping activity delivered valuable information about relevant cluster-initiatives, their services and company structure, including NACE codes. The results delivered valuable information and identified the Danube Region as hot spots in the Phytopharma, Eco-Construction and Bio-Based Packaging value chains.
