EU Korea Climate Action
The purpose of this project is to strengthen networking, dialogue and cooperation among Korean stakeholders and between Korea and the EU to enhance climate action at the non-state actors’ level.
The project aims at amplifying the scope of non-state stakeholders to take effective climate action.
Urban stakeholders such as cities, local authorities, utilities and public services share, exchange and learn from each other in implementing local climate actions to increase urban resilience, prosperity and quality of life. NGOs at national and sub-national levels representing the civil society become better empowered to promote and advocate for more ambitious climate actions. Businesses intermediaries and businesses from large to medium and small enterprises share lessons learnt and step up their efforts in greening and decarbonising business and industrial operations, facilities and supply chains to increase productivity, efficiency, new and green business opportunities. Academia and research institutions exchange scientific approaches of taking climate action at the non-state actors’ level to translate national climate policies and international commitments into measures to reduce GHG emissions on the ground.
The project invites stakeholders from both the EU and Korea to meet through dialogue, networking and partnering efforts to accelerate climate action. The main communication instrument of the project is a bilingual English-Korean e-platform of success stories and best practices for climate action from both European and Korean non-state actors:
www.climateaction-korea.euThe responsive e-platform invites the stakeholders to interact; it serves as a repository of information and knowledge-base for climate action in the EU and in Korea along the identified priority areas. Through an exclusive access area, members can exchange and upload information and hold discussions. The platform unfolds in various thematic categories which can be screened for match-making purposes between stakeholder needs and offerings.
The project organises annual flagship events, workshops, matchmaking events, seminars, public debates and dialogues, joint initiatives and study tours to complement the exchange under the digital EU-Korea Climate Action Platform.
The exchange of stakeholders at urban level will result in the formation of EU-Korea partnership agreements. Under these partnership agreements, technical assistance to pilot projects is planned.
