Objectives:

  • To improve and strengthen the cluster management practices of the participating clusters towards cluster excellence.
  • To enable the clusters to provide more professional top quality business services to the SMEs involved in their clusters.

Sectoral/industrial focus: Energy technology and forest industries

Executive Summary:

The specific objectives of the project are to improve and strengthen the cluster management practices of the participating clusters towards cluster excellency and to enable the clusters to provide more professional top quality business services to the SMEs involved in their clusters.
The direct target group consists of the manager and key personnel of four clusters, involving in total over 500 SMEs, working in the energy technology and forest industry sectors: Oy Merinova Ab (Finland),CEPV (Spain), EnergyIn (Portugal) and the Paper Province ek. förening (Sweden). The SMEs, benefiting from more professional business services from the clusters, are the indirect target group.
The objectives will be achieved by benchmarking of the current cluster management practices to identify gaps for improvement, specific training of cluster managers in identified priority areas, study visits to selected top cluster organizations, applying new and better practices in the cluster management, and by assessing the impact of the action and disseminating the results to other clusters. The impact of the action will be measured both directly by partner association’s capacities to provide better quality business services and indirectly by the number of SMEs which have benefitted from the action through provision of more professional services by the involved cluster organisations.

Expected Results:

By improving the management skills and practices of the clusters, aiming for cluster excellence, the clusters will be able to provide professional top quality business services to the SMEs involved in their clusters. When receiving the top quality services ( in areas such as creativity and product development, exploitation and facilitation of internationalisation opportunities,  exploitation of key enabling technologies, innovation prospects and capacity, IPR protection, resource efficiency etc.), the SMEs will improve their competitiveness and sustainable growth on the global markets. As a result, the SMEs will grow sustainably and create new jobs in the EU.

Events organized by the project:

In order to disseminate the results of the project, a total of 40 local and regional dissemination meetings and 8 workshops will be organized by the 4 participating clusters. A final joint event will be organized in Brussels in June 2017 during the EUSEW, or in October 2017 during the European Week of Regions and Cities (Open Days), in order to disseminate the project results at European level to clusters, institutions and regions.
