Description

Make sure to register for the European Commission’s Transition Platform Meeting – including the Coal Regions in Transition Virtual Week, which will take place between the 16th and 19th of November 2020. Several online sessions be of interest for clusters and businesses willing to support investments in coal regions.

The Coal Regions week will feature two categories of events:

- Meetings of the Just Transition Platform: addressing topics and issues of relevance for all regions and stakeholders from coal regions enduring the energy transition;

- Coal Regions in Transition Virtual Week: with a specific focus on issues faced by coal, peat and oil shale regions in transition.

The opening session is dedicated to highlighting the importance of stakeholder involvement in the just transition. The floor will be given to financial actors, social partners, business representatives, youth organizations and transition experts to discuss the needs and challenges of the just transition. We encourage the diversity of the ECCP community to participate in this session and explore the benefits which could be reaped through collaborating amongst other stakeholders in promoting the just transition process across Europe.

In two dedicated sessions on Tuesday, 17 November, you will be introduced to the different sources of financial support in transition regions from the EU, EIB, EBRD and National Promotional Banks. As part of the coal region in transition week, regions that recently joined the Initiative will be introduced, including their challenges and projects to kick-off the transition. Such sessions can help to more concretely identify and define the avenues for participation in the just transition process in specific regions or in particular European programmes.

Furthermore, you will be able to follow the presentation of a cluster manager sharing his experience in the Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster and his solutions to transition at cluster level in the session ‘Addressing the employment and skills needs for a just transition’ on Wednesday, 18 November.
