EASME, the European Commission's Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises, organised a webinar on the 14th of May 2020 (11:00 CET) to discuss how technology and innovation can be used to rebuild the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. The topic of discussion was the Post-Pandemic Recovery Plans in Cities: Turning the Crisis into an Opportunity - Rethinking Growth. The webinar was moderated by Dana Eleftheriadou, Head of the Advanced Technologies Team at the Directorarte General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW at the European Commission). 

The speakers included: 

  • Ulla Engelmann, Head of Unit for Social Economy (DG GROW, European Commission);
  • Damiano Cerrone, a consultant on urban transformation from the Demos Helsinki think tank, who will discuss how to navigate and shape the post-pandemic world with a focus on localising supply chains, the use of technologies, digital platforms, and data commons;
  • Prof. Olivier De Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Co-chair on International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems, who will present the latest developments on sustainable urban food systems;
  • Piero Pellizzaro, Chief Resilience Officer of Milan, presenting Milan’s recovery plan; and
  • Dr. Limin Hee, Director of the Singapore Centre for Liveable Cities, who will present how its use of smart technologies helps Singapore keep its densely populated city liveable and agile to respond to disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic.
