According to the Centre for Economic Policy Research, the immediate effect of the covid crisis was seen on the disruption of supply chains. On medium and long term it is expected that Industry 4.0 processes in enterprises (use of robots, 3D printing, smart factories) which have already started before the current crisis will be accelerated as they mitigate supply chain risks, increase flexibility, and improve product standards. As a consequence this will lead to a revearse in the globalisation - at least to some extent - as low labour costs will cease to be a relevant competitive advantage.
