The European Commission has set up a €100 billion solidarity instrument to help workers keep their incomes and help businesses stay afloat. This new instrument will provide loans to countries that need it to ensure that workers receive an income and businesses keep their staff. These loans will help Member States to cover the costs directly related to the creation or extension of national short-time work schemes, and other similar measures they have put in place for the self-employed as a response to the current coronavirus pandemic.
