"2019 Taiwan-EU Cluster Cooperation: Successful Stories Sharing Seminar” was held on October 9, 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan. It was organized by Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI). There were around 17 participants including 10 Taiwanese clusters representatives. CNFI has invited Mr. Wolfgang Zorn from Fraunhofer Institute of Germany and Vice President Mr. John Chen from Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry to share their stories.

Mr. Wolfgang Zorn first introduced the Fraunhofer Institute from Germany, which is the largest research institution in Europe. It includes 72 research units, more than 26,000 employees, and a research budget of 2.6 billion euros per year. It has representative offices, project centers and consultant centers in many countries all over the world. Mr. Zorn often represents Fraunhofer Institute to make technical cooperation with other organizations around the world. Mr. Zorn and Mr. John Chen met during Taiwan-EU clusters cooperation matchmaking event in 2017. They have come up a technical cooperation opportunity which applied to Vision 2020 project.

Mr. John Chen have had experiences about technical cooperation with other organizations. Because of having these experiences, he was sent to attend Taiwan-EU clusters cooperation matchmaking event in 2017. After discussing with Mr. Zorn about smart machinery preventive maintenance and processing optimization, mechanical safety supervision and preventive maintenance, digital safety and factory process optimization technologies, Mr. Chen believes that these technologies will be a great help for Taiwan's related industries. Therefore, Mr. Chen has put efforts keeping follow-up with Mr. Zorn these past 2 years and both have come up a successful cooperation.

The story between Fraunhofer Institute and Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry is very instructive and encouraging. It is helpful for Taiwanese clusters to make future cooperation with European clusters.
