AEI TÈXTILS on tour in Morocco

From November 13th to 15th, the international conference ITMC - International Conference on Intelligent Textiles & Mass Customisation was held in Marrakech. The ITMC is organized every two years and the organization rotates among the 5 coordinating countries (Belgium, Canada, France, Japan and Morocco). The local organizer of this seventh edition has been ESITH.

On November 13th and 14th, inspiring speakers from industry, academia, government and society discussed on new opportunities and challenges, bringing global trends and success stories about cutting edge science and technology. The main topics addressed were: advanced manufacturing, comfort, connected composites, design methodologies, digital tools, E-textile and E-commerce, education and training, funding opportunities, Internet of Things, mass customization, smart and functional textiles, supply chain management and logistics, sustainable production, recycling.

On the last day of the conference, at the same location, the Smart Textiles Saloon also held its seventh edition. A variety of prototypes based on textile materials were exhibited at this event.   

On November 14th, Dr. Ariadna Detrell, Cluster Manager of AEI Tèxtils (main photo), presented CONTEXT, the European network of experts on advanced textile materials, as action chair within the conference. Several members of the network also participated the conference. Two members of AEI Tèxtils also attended the conference: LEITAT Technological Centre and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

Nora Boisserée from LEITAT presented LIFE-FLAREX. LIFE-FLAREX is a project coordinated by AEI Tèxtils, which aims to substitute the current flame retardant products applied in the finishing textile processes for more sustainable alternatives.

From UPC, Dr. Mónica Ardanuy, presented FOSTEX, a project led by UPC and in which AEI Tèxtils is a partner. The members of the FOSTEX consortium organized their bi-annual monitoring meeting on November 12th in Casablanca at University Hassan II facilities, one of the three Moroccan partners.
