Facilitating Industry - Research Connections

12th July 2016

In aiming to support European businesses access foreign markets, develop research capabilities and find new business partners abroad, the Be Wiser consortium are pleased to launch the latest addition to the Be Wiser Connect platform – ‘Connect RTD.’

The Be Wiser Connect RTD database was a result of collaboration between Eurecat (Spain), ICT TN (Slovenia) and CIT (Ireland). Essentially, any interested firm or research organisation can use the platform to engage in facilitated connections with over 20 Research, Technology and Development Centres (RTD) located within Be Wiser partner clusters in Cyprus, France, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain and Northern Ireland. Connections can provide opportunities for firms and other research centres to connect with RTD centres across Europe with regard to research innovations and collaborative European projects.

The original Be Wiser Connect - online match making tool, launched in September 2015 at a Cluster Seminar Series in the Cork Institute of Technology was developed to encourage businesses in Ireland and right across Europe to build facilitated connections with each other.  The platform was utilised by the Be Wiser consortium @ EuroTech Connect where business delegations from Spain, Slovenia and the United Kingdom participated in a three day trade mission from the 24th to 26th of May in Cork, Ireland, where they got to meet and connect with a whole host of the region’s ICT firms and RTD centres, including EMC, IBM Security, Tyco, Tyndall and Nimbus.

Nina Sega (ICT Technology Network) suggested that “the Be Wiser consortium is dedicated to supporting additional research connections between both firms and RTD centres and between RTD centres across Europe. I hope that clusters, individual firms and RTD centres will utilise this addition to the Be Wiser Connect platform to develop their networks and relationships across Europe.”
