On Friday, 13 April, Chilean law firm Guerrero Olivos, specialised in electrical, wind and solar power, came to Bilbao to meet with five Basque energy companies. The visit was arranged by the Basque Energy Cluster.

The aim of the meeting was to explain the situation of the energy sector in Chile, where there is a huge amount of new renewable energy generation projects, and there are large investments being made in transmission infrastructure because of the new long-term way of planning their networks.

Guerrero Olivos met with each one of the following Basque companies throughout the morning to discuss the aforementioned topics: Stansol EnergyGlualBoslanLKS Ingeniería and Infinite Solar Energy. The presentation carried out by Guerrero Olivos included a general description of the changes in regulations that have enabled the development of renewable energy in Chile, and later on tackled the business challenges and opportunities in various areas, for example:

  • Energy project funding in Chile
  • Future energy supply tenders for "regulated" clients
  • Future energy supply tenders for "free" clients
  • Future transmission network tenders
  • Development of "PMGD" (Small Means of Distributed Generation) projects

Thanks to these meetings, Basque companies got first-hand information for future renewable energy projects in Chile and contacts to more easily enter the Chilean market.

Guerrero Olivos is a law firm with wide experience in Chile and abroad. They are pioneers in the local market in electricpower, wind farms, solar farms, water rights and waste treatment projects, and in counselling on environmental and regulatory matters.
