EU-Japan Center: Industry and Policy News, June 2019
The EU-Japan Centre in Tokyo is regularly publishing "Industry and Policy News" from the Japanese industrial, business and policy landscape, including newly released policy documents, surveys, and official statements, in the context of EU-Japan industrial cooperation.
The June issue covers a diversity of topics structured as follows:
Legislation and policy news: Japan's Long-term Strategy under the Paris Agreement, published in June, two G20 Ministerial Meetings on Trade and Digital Economy and on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth, new standards issued by the Council on Fuel Efficiency Standards for Passenger Vehicles, the recently launched Hydrogen Report of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the joint statement the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI), the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) and the Department of Energy of the United States (DOE) for the future cooperation on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, and others.
Survey and business data: outcomes of the Annual Vital Statistics Report released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the continuous increase in the domestic market size for environment-related industry
Company news: carbon recycling news, the supply of ”carbon neutral” liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the first time in Japan, the new Plan for Advancement of Integration and Streamlining of Distribution Business approved by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and others.
Additional topics referring to the “J-Startup Program” offering startups governmental support for expanding their businesses overseas, the new project “Smart Mobility Challenge,” aimed at supporting regional cities and areas in taking on implementation of new mobility services in society, and others.
