The Catalan News published an article on 6 July following the announcement made by the Catalan Vice President and Minister of the Economy and Treasury Oriol Junqueras that a Catalan financial cluster will be created in 2018, the first of its kind in Catalonia. The initiative aims at bringing funding closer to SMEs and enabling a better understanding between small firms and the financial sector. According to the source, „around 450 companies in this sector manage some 955 billion euros. These include banks, insurance firms, mutual insurance companies and investment businesses based in the country, plus Catalonia’s share of the business from companies located elsewhere.“

The project was unveiled during the presentation of an analysis report on Catalan financial sector made by a Catalan government representative and the head of the Cluster Development company, with Joan Hortalà, the president of Barcelona Stock Exchange, and Oriol Junqueras also taking part.
