Flagship area “Power up”
Summary of the European Alliance Against Coronavirus Webinar on 19 October 2020
In order to benefit from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the main instrument for the European economic recovery, Member States should submit their draft recovery and resilience plans outlining national investment and reform agendas that are in line with the EU policy criteria. The Commission strongly encourages Member States to include in their plans investment and reforms in seven flagship areas: Power up, Renovate, Recharge and Refuel, Connect, Modernise, Scale-up, and Reskill & Upskill.
The flagship area “Power up” is defined in the Annual Growth Strategy 2021:
Future-proof clean technologies should be frontloaded and the development and use of renewables should be accelerated as well as their integration through modernised networks and enhanced interconnectivity. The flagship will lay the foundation for hydrogen lead markets in Europe and the related infrastructure. It aims to support the building and sector integration of almost 40% of the 500 GW of renewable power generation needed by 2030, support the instalment of 6 GW of electrolyser capacity and the production and transportation of 1 million tons of renewable hydrogen across the EU by 2025.
The European Alliance Against Coronavirus discussed the approach to these flagship areas and how SMEs can be involved in them and form partnerships with big companies. For example, France has published a call for proposals for the recovery initiatives: French Ministry for Economy and BPI France
