Summary of the European Alliance Against Coronavirus Webinar on 14 October 2020

The creative and cultural industries have been seriously impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. In this webinar, the speakers turned to the question: What needs to be done for the recovery of the ecosystem?

Romanas Matulis, Vilnius Film Cluster, shared the cluster’s collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. After taking surveys and sending letters to the ministry, they were invited to join a working group to combat the consequences of the pandemic on the CCI sector in Lithuania. The proposals of the working group are now included in the government´s DNA plan for the future economy. Furthermore, the ministry created instruments on national level, which are incentives to improve the infrastructure of CCI enterprises and to develop competitive content products.

Lucie Renou, Samoa, presented the different activities of their city planning and aim to create more sustainability in urban projects. On regional level and together with the authorities, Samoa is developing a network to harmonise exiting support measures and to increase awareness of public funds to entrepreneurs. On national level, they are part of discussion groups on the design sector and consult about possible actions. The national government promised 2 billion as an “investment for the future”.

David Gal-Regniez, Minalogic, highlighted that the crisis in not over yet and that we have to rethink our strategies. Minalogic not only unites actors from the creative industries, but also from digital and technological sectors. This is a key for the future: we need to develop more interaction between creative and traditional industries, create synergies, lead CCI towards the green transformation, and think CCI and new technologies together. For this, we should consider CCI as full-fledged industries, and identify important actors for the new trends.
