Industrial Ecosystems: Digital

Submitted by Veronika Muller on 23 October 2020

Summary of the European Alliance Against Coronavirus Webinar on 1 October 2020

The digital ecosystem is deeply linked with the other ecosystems – the digital transformation is one of the main goals for the next years. Bianca Muntean, Transilvania IT Cluster, presented the cluster’s activities in this respect, as now a lot of the strategies are being drafted. The requests for ICT are increasing, and the clusters is looking for new ways to implement projects. Up- and reskilling will play an important role for the digital transformation. In Romania, the central government will give the main directions for the recovery plans and the digital transformation, and the regional development agencies with implement them. Transilvania IT Cluster is in close contact with the national authorities about the digitalisation of Romania.

Vasco Lagarto, TICE.PT, underlined the transversal characteristic of the digital ecosystem, which enters a symbiotic relation with all the other ecosystems. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the home has become the centre of our activities, which has the following implications: residential connections and wifi coverages must be improved, the contention factor must be reduced, and the core network and the interconnection among operations should be upgraded. We should rethink some the investment and increase capabilities in virtual/reality for learning and teaching and the health sector and in robotics. Europe´s digital sovereignty needs to be strengthened, and we should think about a European mobile platform to preserve and use the data that we are producing.
