The Cluster project ‘innovative coatings’ will be launched in January: an IBN (Innovative Business Network) set up by CoRI, Centexbel and Sirris, that is supported by the Flemish Agency Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO).
The start event will take place on 31/1/2017 in the premises of Fedustria in Sint-Denijs Westrem, where the first Belgian astronaut, Dirk Frimout, will testify on the need of material coatings based on his experiences in outer space!

Human Life in SPACE – Need for Innovation by Vicomte Dirk Frimout
A passionate talk about his personal experience as first Belgian astronaut and about today’s projects for human expedition in space, particularly a mission to the planet Mars. Discover the challenges and unmet needs in this high tech world, where innovation, and in particular innovative coatings, could help revolutionise a future life beyond our planet Earth.

The cluster unites the different coating sectors (textiles, plastics, metal, wood...) so that they can learn from each other’s products and technologies to apply the knowledge and expertise of one sector in the other.
The IBN is not a research project but will function als a counter where companies can appeal to for all kinds of questions.
The platform collects the necessary information to propose a solution to the companies or to refer them to existing organisations that can help them by means of technical knowlegde, training, support in internationalisation, collaboration opportunities with other companies in Belgium or abroad, etc.
The ultimate goal is the initiation of IBN collaborations between the different companies through the mechanismes of supply and demand.
