Official Opening of ‘ENRICH in Brazil’

The ‘European Network of Research and Innovation Centres and Hubs’ (ENRICH) in Brazil has been ceremonially inaugurated on 29th November 2017 in Brasília, Brazil. ‘ENRICH in Brazil’ aims to become the main hub and contact point for European and Brazilian Science, Technology and Innovation Actors. The Centre will encourage and facilitate the cooperation in research, technology and entrepreneurship between Europe and Brazil by supporting and empowering all innovation actors (public & private) along the innovation (value) chain.

The launch of the first Centre in Brazil was supported by the Ambassador of the European Union to Brazil, H.E. João Gomes Cravinho, who highlighted with his keynote address the close relationship between Brazil and Europe also in terms of innovation.

Starting next year, ‘ENRICH in Brazil’ will offer services to public and private innovation actors, such as companies, research organisations and governmental actors. The services offered in 2018 will support internationalisation and empower the innovation actors by offering tailor-made trainings. The service portfolio covers networking opportunities, such as business roundtables, pitching sessions and matchmaking events as well as informative studies and competitive analyses. To complement the ‘ENRICH’ experience, customized legal and financial consulting services are also part of the portfolio.

The Head of the Division for Science and Technology of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luis Fernando Corrêa da Silva Machado, emphasizes that ENRICH follows the same approach of the Brazilian government, to boost the relations with European countries. "We hope the centre will enrich our cooperation”, he said.

The Director of Operations of SENAI, Gustavo Leal Salles Filho, highlighted the benefits of engaging in the Centre: ”By participating in ENRICH, SENAI will be able to establish more partnerships to develop new technologies which are of interest to the Brazilian industry". He added that “international partnerships are important for the SENAI Institutes of Innovation to fully meet the demand of the industrial sector”.

‘ENRICH’ is an initiative of the European Union, executed in Brazil by the CEBRABIC project that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. A group of four Brazilian and eight European institutions from Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary, Austria, Spain and Turkey are part of the project consortium to strengthen cooperation in research, innovation and business between Brazil and Europe by establishing ‘ENRICH in Brazil’.

‘ENRICH in Brazil’ is one of the pilot Centres of the European initiative to enhancing Business & Innovation Cooperation. Fraunhofer IPK, located in Berlin, Germany is the consortium coordinator and part of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft e. V., the largest applied research organization in Europe.

Besides ‘ENRICH in Brazil’ the ‘European Network of Research and Innovation Centres and Hubs’ (ENRICH) comprises two other pilot Centres, ‘ENRICH in China’ and ‘ENRICH in USA’.
