Summary of the European Alliance Against Coronavirus Daily Webinar on 8 September 2020

In this morning session, the European Alliance Against Coronavirus looked at examples of how the digitalisation for citizens, companies and governments can be pushed forward through regional initiatives and strategies.

Theo Föllings from the Regional Development Agency Oost NL presented their activities for digital transformation to build a strong interregional digital innovation ecosystem by supporting SMEs in achieving knowledge, skills, investments, and networks. For the Regional Smart Specialisation Strategy 2021-2027, the agency focusses on crossovers and transitions in digitalisation and robotization, servitisation, internationalisation, social innovation, and energy and material shifts.

Cristina Murillo from the cluster GAIA presented their collaboration with the Basque government to implement public policies, which cover energy, advanced manufacturing, and biosciences, through RIS3. Their plan contains three spaces of specialisation opportunities - smart industry, smart territory, and smart society – to develop and transform processes, products and services for companies and administrations.

Anne-Marie Sassen from DG CNECT explained the European Digital Innovation Hubs, which are currently in the process of being selected. They will provide technological expertise and experimentation facilities to enable the digital transformation of the industry and the public sector. It´s “EU-local” approach will establish one EDIH “withing working distance” for every business in the EU.

Hassoun Mokhtar from Dev’Up presented the FrenchTech Loire Valley and the idea of its digital innovation hub. Instead of being a “one stop shop”, they work as a “one stop network” to offer the entire capacities of their network to the companies and territories. They see digital solutions as a tool to increase business development and act as a broker to SMEs to get the technology needed. Hassoun pointed out the need to develop our own European technologies to make our ecosystems more resilient.
