BASSCOM Retreat and meeting with the ICT community in Burgas

Last Saturday in the newly opened International Congress Center in Burgas was held BASSCOM Retreat and meeting with the ICT community in Burgas. The meeting was organized by BASSCOM together with ICT Cluster - Burgas. At the congress center, the companies from BASCOM got acquainted with the ICT community in Burgas and discussed various opportunities for creating and expanding partnerships.

Nearly 100 managers of BASSCOM companies attended the event and took an active part in the discussion on the state of the IT-ICT industry. The event was attended by representatives of local authorities, universities, business and non-governmental organizations.

The new Bulgarian Employers' Association of Innovative Technologies (BRAIT) was presented at the meeting with its goals, activities and initiatives. 

The BG Industry Map project was also presented https://bgindustrymap.com/bg  - the first mapping of the Bulgarian industry, prepared by the Ministry of Economy and the Executive Agency for Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises in partnership with the Bulgarian Employers' Association Innovative Technologies (BRAIT).

Projects in the field of education and providing talents for the industry were presented by:

  • "Training for IT Career" - Vocational School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics "Konstantin Fotinov", Burgas
  • Vocational School of Computer Programming and Innovation Burgas

Petko Georgiev - Chairman of the ICT Cluster - Burgas presented the latest project of the cluster - "Southeast Digital Innovation Hub" (https://digihub.bg/bg/), which supports the development of digitalization in the southeastern region of Bulgaria. The hub helps companies to find the right experts, advisors and IT solution providers in Bulgaria or in other European countries that can help them define and succeed with their digital transformation. Digihub is now officially recognized nationally and is part of a pan-European network of digital innovation hubs.

At the annual meeting, the two organizations also discussed:

  • Challenges for the IT sector during the COVID crisis;
  • Modernization and digitalization of the tax system - repeal of Ordinance H-18 and next steps;
  • "The Return" - an initiative to Bulgarians abroad;
  • Cooperation in the field of education and science.

At the meeting, the Municipality of Burgas showed an interesting new video that draws a parallel between San Francisco and Burgas as cities, destinations for the development of high-tech companies.

At an organized dinner and a party by the sea, the two organizations celebrated together the 4th birthday of the ICT Cluster Burgas.
