Bergslagens steel industry attracts international PhD students

Submitted by Carolyn Stanley on 21 August 2017

In September it’s finally time for this year’s Nordic Summer Colloquium on Advanced Steel, NSCAS. Young international PhD students in advanced steel are coming to Bergslagen to meet the Swedish steel industry and to present their research. NSCAS, which is organized by Triple Steelix 2.0, will take place between 28th August and 8 September with a program full of inspiring meetings, lectures, workshops and scientific discussions. One of the events is the High Tech Steel Conference, the 4th of September, in Falun where the latest technology and applications of advanced steels will be presented.

Both academia and the business sector are participating in the exciting exchange of knowledge and competence. After last year’s success we have seen how NSCAS can lead to new valuable contacts and collaborations by lifting up young researchers together with the Swedish steel industry in Bergslagen.

  • Unique opportunity – the world comes to us!
  • 15 international PhD students, from universities in 9 countires.
  • NSCAS spreads the message of an attractive region and launches successful collaborations which place our municipalities, colleges, steel and engineering industry on the world map with its high quality.
  • NSCAS is a unique opportunity for future international steel researchers to meet Swedish industrial tradition and lifestyle. And, for Bergslagens’ industry to create long term collaborations.

"NSCAS turns the spotlight on the steel and engineering industry in the region internationally. It is important for our innovative companies to maintain a leading position. We broaden the views and attract new international skills, "says Elisabeth Dahlstedt, Project Manager NSCAS at Triple Steelix 2.0.

"We create a meeting place where young international top competence meets Swedish business and R&D leaders and get to know the region and get close contact with academia. The established researchers contribute with their experience and Swedish young researchers make new contacts.”
