The open meeting of the Pomeranian Council for Smart Specialization No. 1 and the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster took place at the Port of Gdynia on July 9 this year. The representatives of the maritime business were welcomed by Maciej Krzesiński – director of marketing and international cooperation in the Maritime Port Authority, who said: we want to show from the practical side what the Port was made and what will be done and in what areas the Port intends to cooperate with companies.

This is another business meeting of the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster – said prof. Marek Grzybowski, president of the cluster’s management board. Acting together as part of the smart specialization of Pomerania, we engage in innovative projects, and thanks to B2B business meetings, we have the chance to generate common ideas that we can transform into business projects. The point is to take advantage of the competitive advantages of the Pomeranian region. We will obtain a high competitive position and innovative products only when we operate together – said prof. Marek Grzybowski. The smart specializations of Pomerania are cooperation platforms to which we invite everyone interested in implementing innovative products – said Karolina Lipińska – deputy director of the Economic Development Department of the Marshal’s Office of the Pomorskie Voivodeship.

The port in Gdynia covers an area of almost 1000 ha of land from this 621 ha of land. More than 17 km of wharfs are available to operators – said director Krzesiński, pointing out that the port implements many innovative solutions. The purpose of innovative solutions is to preserve the safety of vessel traffic, improve the quality of port customers’ service, ensure sustainable development. Truck traffic management and train notification are implemented. Procedures were developed and LNG bunkering of ships.  The Port of Gdynia intends to use renewable energy sources. The technique of defense against drones is also  implemented.

The Port of Gdansk is the largest Polish seaport, 4 in the Baltic Sea and 2 in container reloading. Like Gdynia, we are a company implementing innovations, we support startups – said Filip Ręczmin from the Port of Gdansk Authority and he mentions: expansion of quays and deepening the canal in the inner port; modernization of road and rail network; expansion of the northern quay in the outer port; setting up car parks. A strategic undertaking will be the construction of the Central Port in the external port.

During the meeting, two innovative solutions implemented recently in the Port of Gdynia were presented. The system of precise arrival of the ship to the port was presented by Jacek Pietraszkiewicz – the president of the board of NavSim. After more than half a year of design work and assembly of appropriate equipment to the container terminal in Gdynia, a container ship was introduced. It was Charlotte Maersk – a ship with a length of 347 meters, a width of 43 meters and a draft of 11 meters. The side surface of the ship was 12,000 square meters (ship and containers stacked on it). Pollution of the environment is one of the important problems of ports. The Seadata Yetisense & Yetibox platform allows you to respond in advance to threats and stop the growth of dust, for example by spraying dumps, scheduling reloading, optimizing work at the port, said Marta Wenta z SeaData. The monitoring system has been installed in the Port of Gdańsk and the Port of Gdynia, and the information is publicly available on the websites of both ports.
