Circular economy, boosted by Transylvanian Furniture Cluster through TRENCADIS project

Submitted by Ciprian Morcan on 23 April 2020

Starting from the design and going all the way to the reciclying of the same piece of furniture, this is the route of Trencadis project, financed through Horizon 2020, in the call H2020-SC5-2018-2019-2020 Greening the economy in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 3 main stages of the project are: design - use - recicle. The aim is to increase the lifespan of furniture, by using new materials in the assembly proccess, biolastics, for example, that are more durable, completly reciclable and have a low impact on the environment. Also, the relationship of the end consummer with the furniture manufacturer and the piece of furniture itself would be changed, by connecting them in a circular economy pattern, that means upgrading a product by replacing the component that worn-out in time. To create this kind of cycle, three international hubs will be established, to test the furniture designed in the project. One of the hubs will be in Romania, under Transylvanian Furniture Cluster supervision, and here the testing will have two phases, for the initial design and then for the upgraded design, that will use at least 80% of the materials from the initial design. The partners Transylvanian Furniture Cluster (Cluster Mobilier Transilvan) has in these project are:   1) Fundatia TECNALIA Cercetare și Inovare – Spain 2) INTEGRATED INFORMATION SYSTEMS SA– Grecee 3) Aner Sistemas Informáticos– Spain 4) Plastika Skaza d. o. o –Slovenia 5) RECTICEL SA - Belgium 6) Emanuele Mariotto Srl –Italy 7) Breda Tecnologie Commerciali S.r.l- Italy 8) VALDELIA– France 9) SOKOA SA –France 10) Donar d.o.o.– Slovenia 11) Antares România – Romania 12) Cluster Habic – Spain 13) ARREDO FURNITURE CLUSTER – Italy 14) Wood Industry Cluster – Slovenia
