October 31st , Packaging Cluster made its second visit to the Amazon logistics center, located in the Prat of Llobregat. The visit had a total of 28 attendees, who were linked to the cluster and interested in learning about the productive and technological development of the world-renowned e-Commerce company.

At 12 o’clock in the morning we met with the Amazon team – characterized for the occasion – in charge of managing the tours for the invited groups, called tour ambassador. In a first introductory part, issues related to brand values were discussed, especially those that apply to internal relations with their workers: working conditions of staff, motivational elements, training or common spaces.

In the itinerary marked to explore the place, with an area of more than 200,000 square meters, we were able to know first-hand the whole process of the production chain, since an order arrives (Pick), it is packed (Pack), it is registered (SLAM), until it is sent and reaches the end user.

One of the elements that attracted the most attention were the Kiva robots, which moved the shelves with products and merchandise on a program basis, following a route that avoided collisions with each other and that adapted it’s rhythm when a person walked around them.

In the hour and a half that the tour lasted, questions of a logistical and administrative nature were resolved, and the small details that allow Amazon to be a benchmark in efficiency and competence were known.

This second visit was organized in order to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the experience and learn new ways of working. After receiving positive feedback from the attendees, we will continue to organize conferences that provide active value to our partners.
