The Duero Douro initiative, heritage for development, has been awarded the "2018. European Year of Cultural Heritage" label.

The Label is an action promoted by the European Union that seeks to spread, through cultural heritage, the European motto of unity in diversity, where culture is the basis of learning, exchanges and transnational dialogues.

The use of this European Heritage Label is a source of pride for Duero Douro for what it means in terms of quality and commitment when sharing the values promoted by this European initiative, which are no other than to consolidate the European identity by reinforcing the sense of belonging, the promotion of the values of democratic coexistence and intercultural dialogue, as defined in Decision 1194/2011 / EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, of November 16, 2011.

The aim is to relate heritage with sustainable development of the regions through different activities, especially artisanal creation and contemporary art. More specifically, the Douro Douro initiative aims to promote this involvement through the different projects that are being carried out in the Douro river territories.
