EnW signs its first International Cooperation Agreement during COP 22 in Marrakech

Submitted by Cristina Casian on 20 December 2016

The COP conference stands for the “Conference of the Parties”. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) entered into force in 1994, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.

During the COP, member States, who have common but differentiated responsibilities, strive to reach agreements on reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activity, assess the evolution of their commitments and review the implementation of the Framework Convention and other legal instruments that the COP adopts. Typically a series of negotiating sessions are carried out beforehand in order to optimize the agenda and discussions.

As of today there are 197 Parties to the Convention (196 States and the European Union) including Palestine who joined in March 2016.

Through this instrument, the United Nations has equipped itself with an action framework to fight global warming.

The COP 22 conference was organized this year to Marrakech and Ea éco-entreprises, in partnership with Alpes Côte d’Azur region, exhibited on a booth coordinating  a delegation of 15 cleantech French companies.

Taking advantage of this international mission, EnW partnership represented by Ea-éco-entreprises signed AMEPA (Moroccan Association of Water) the first International Cooperation Agreement.

The Moroccan Association for Water Supply and Sanitation (Association Marocaine de l'Eau Potable et de l'Assainissement - AMEPA) is a trade association created in 1997 to "address upcoming challenges and defend the sector's interests". It has organized a number of national and international seminars and congresses in Morocco. The Association represents SMEs, service providers, contractors, consulting firms and professional associations.

The EnW- AMEPA cooperation agreement aims to enhance a strong cooperation between Energy in Water partners and Moroccan actors for planning a potential trade mission in Morocco. This mission could support the European SMEs to access to new potential African markets, because Morocco is considered today a connecting platform between the African continent and the European one.
