On Thursday, July 6th, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Irish and French geoscience clusters: Geoscience Ireland and Pole Avenia (pictured above: Koen Verbruggen, Director Geological Survey Ireland (left), and Emmanuelle Piron, Project Coordinator Pole Avenia (right)).

The MoU was signed at Geoscience Ireland's Industry & Innovation Conference in Dublin at which Sean Kyne TD (Member of Parliament), Minister for Natural Resources in Ireland, provided the keynote address. The Minister outlined how the Geoscience Ireland initiative aligns with clustering policy in Ireland which has co-located clusters in the Financial Services, Bio-medical, ICT  and Pharmaceutical sectors with new networks emerging in Agribusiness and the Marine areas.

The conference showcased Ireland's expertise in the field of geoscience, and the sectors it underpins, by way of industry case studies, internationalising professional services, and research and development programmes. The conference also introduced three new members to the GI cluster: Arup (Ireland), Lagan Asphalt and ERM Environmental Resources Management, bringing membership to 33 specialist companies.

Pole Avenia, which recently completed an international business-to-business conference in Pau, signed the MoU enhancing the relationship between both clusters, and to target research and commercial opportunities between the Member Companies of both clusters.
