Industrial clusters for a competitive and committed Europe

Europe faces the challenge of transforming itself into a just and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy. Now more than ever, in the current crisis situation, the mobilization of the industry facing a compromised economy, through a more intense cooperation of the value chains, as well as the use of sustainable digital solutions and disruptive innovation are fundamental.

In this way, our business innovation ecosystems must be integrated around clusters, which are agents of change that actively support the transformation of the industry, as established in the “Vision for the European industry until 2030” and in the Strategic Forum for a future industry prepared in the EU.

In this context, the role of the European Clusters Alliance is becoming increasingly important, which is a participatory initiative that brings together 12 national associations of clusters, representing more than 700 cluster organizations, where 112,000 innovative companies collaborate with thousands of universities, research centers and public institutions to boost their competitiveness.

Led by the National Federation of Clusters, chaired by Antonio Novo, its mission is to be a common voice, facilitating connections and opportunities to face the challenges that lie ahead. As an example of great collaboration, the European Cluster Alliance is making all the resources of member clusters available to the European Commission to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, it currently puts all its means to answer the call of around 25,000 ventilators to deal with the coronavirus.

Once again, clusters are key elements to help society, in this case, in such a crucial moment for all and are fundamental assets to face challenges such as redirecting the industry to manufacture sanitary materials that are scarce in Europe.
