The Maritime Economy Forum in Gdynia – the most important meeting of practitioners and experts from the maritime sector in Poland – hosted over 600 guests. Over 30 speakers discussed the most important problems of the Polish and world maritime economy. Experts and managers took part in four panels: „Maritime Industries”, „Sea Ports”, „Maritime Logistics” and „Ship Management”.

Participants of the Maritime Economy Forum were officially welcomed by Wojciech Szczurek, the president of Gdynia, who said that the maritime industry is a key area of the city’s economy.  European Union support for innovation in the maritime economy was the subject of the presentation Magdalena Andreea Strachinescu Olteanu, European Commission Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.  The strategy of China’s economic expansion as a potential source of threats for EU countries was discussed deeply by prof. Jonathan Holslag, Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies.

A thorough analysis of the swot of Polish and French shipbuilding industries was carried out in the panel titled Complementarity and potential of cooperation between shipbuilding industries in Poland and France, conducted by Jerzy Czuczman – President of the Association of Polish Ship Engines KORAB. The discussion was also prompted by the panel topic „4.0 Modern technologies in Polish seaports”, which was edited by the editor Władysław Jaszowski. During the discussion, the following issues were discussed: innovative cargo handling technologies in delivery and export to / from a seaport, modern service technologies at reloading terminals and intelligent cooperation tools with shipowners, land carriers and logistics operators. The subject of DCT Gdansk sale was also discussed.

The basic trends in the development of container shipping were discussed in a panel led by Marek Tarczyński – Chairman of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Shipping and Logistics (PISIL), President of the Board in the company Terramar Sp. z o.o. A heated discussion has caused the topic of new transport corridors (New Silk Road, North-East Road – Arctic Trail). The discussion analyzed the prospects for their development and the potential effects on the container shipping market and the Polish TSL sector. The Ship Management panel was led by Piotr Masny – Member of the Board of the Polish Ship Managers’ Association, President of the Management Board of HMS Assistance S.A. panel participants drew attention to legislative restrictions hindering the operation of ships under the Polish flag and problems related to social security (insurance), over 30,000 Polish seamen sailing in fleets around the world.

The organizers of the Maritime Economy Forum are the city of Gdynia and the Gdynia Development Agency.
